I
attend Ivy Tech Community College-Wabash Valley Region in Terre Haute,
IN. On May 3, 2007 I earned my first college degree. It was an A.A.S.
degree in Business Administration with concentration in Management. My
current major is Business Administration with concentration in Sports
Management (A.S.). I aim to transfer to a four year institution to earn
a Bachelor’s degree in the Sports Management field. My dream job is to
assist in running a community center in which I can instruct children in
the “sweet science” (Boxing) and provide them with educational
assistance through tutorial sessions.
I
chose to accept the invitation to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa
because I figured that it would help me to advance towards my
educational and professional goals (i.e. look good on my resume). My
membership application was confirmed and accepted on October 20, 2005.
The first activity that I took part in was Alpha Phi Eta chapter’s “Gift
of Warmth” in December of 2005. The program provided Ivy Tech students’
children with gifts, a luncheon, and we even sang Christmas carols. This
experience presented me with the understanding that Phi Theta Kappa was
much more than “a club for intellectuals”. I was given the opportunity
to interact with my peers and their families. I was able to truly make a
difference. Needless to say, I haven’t looked back since and Phi Theta
Kappa has continued to provide me with opportunities to serve my
chapter, campus, community, region, and world.
As
President, I believe that I am but one of the
vehicles through which our society operates. Thank you all for your
support, encouragement, and confidence.
“Never
look down to test the ground before taking your next step; only [those]
who keep [our] eye fixed on the far horizon will find [our] right road.”
